  • Photo 4A – Beginning Digital Photography: Photoshop & Lightroom

Introduction to the tools for expressive communication in digital photography using Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Photoshop Lightroom. Development of skills in image capture, enhancement, printing, and web publishing, for both fine art and commercial applications.2 hours lecture, 3 hours lecture-laboratory, 1.5 hours laboratory. (78 hours total per quarter.)

Monday & Wed.  5:30-8:50pm & 7pm -9:50pm

  • Photo 5 – Introduction to Photography

  • – Learn how to use your camera in hands-on demos & field trips by going from beginner to photographer in one quarter
  • – Learn to compose great photographs
  • – Get a grasp on where we are now with photography in art
  • – Interact with other photography students and have a ball!

A survey of the historical and practical aspects of photography as an art form. Students will be introduced to the use of light, composition and communication through images. Significant photographers from a diversity of backgrounds will inspire students in the practice of photography and developing an appreciation of the varied uses of the photographic image in our culture.3 hours lecture, 2 hours lecture-laboratory. (60 hours total per quarter.)

College of San Mateo • Beginning Digital Photography & Lightroom Course:

  • ART 381 BEGINNING DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY (3) + Lightroom

Minimum of 48 lecture hours per term. Recommended Preparation: ART 350.

Description: Teaches photography using a digital camera and computer. Computer proficiency is required. Covers the principles of composition, use of natural light and seeing. Students use Adobe Lightroom to organize, edit and display photographs. Proficiency using a digital camera is developed. Students create photographs that are projected and critiqued in class. Extra supplies may be required. (May be taken twice for a maximum of 6 units.) (AA, CSU, UC)
